From short walks to day walks, multi-day walks to cycling trails...some of the sections of Walk The Yorke provide amazing scenery and experiences that are not to be missed.

 

Short walks

Coobowie to Edithburgh
Sealed trail linking townships and passing Coobowie estuary, a haven for Australian and migratory birds, including international shorebirds.
Distance:  6 kms one way (allow 1.5 hours), 12 kms return (allow 3 hours). To extend the walk, trail users can continue onto Sultana Point (another 4.2 kms one way, allow an additional 1 hour).
Level of difficulty – easy. Accessible for mobile-impaired.

Port Clinton to Price
Compacted gravel trail overlooking the mangrove forests between Port Clinton and Price.
Distance: 7.8 kms one way (allow 2 hours).  15.6 kms return (allow 4 hours).
Level of difficulty – easy.

Innes National Park – Gym Beach Hike
Natural-surface trail taking in unique flora and fauna and high sand dunes between Browns Beach and Gym Beach. Good range of bird life and delicate wild orchids in spring.
Distance: 5.5 kms one way (allow 2 hours). 11 kilometres return (allow 4 hours).
Level of difficulty – moderate.

Note: Entry fee into Innes National Park is exempt for walkers. If taking a vehicle into Innes National Park fees apply.

Port Vincent – Northern Walking Trail
Compacted gravel and natural-surfaced trail with excellent views of the foreshore.
Distance: 2.5 kilometres one way (allow 45 minutes). 5 kilometres return (allow 1.5 hours).
Level of difficulty – easy-moderate

Stansbury Coastal Walking Trail
Wheel-chair accessible trail from the town jetty, along the foreshore past the Caravan Park to the town cemetery. Offers great views of the Adelaide Hills across Gulf St Vincent.
Distance: 2.6 kilometres one way (allow 45 minutes). 5 kilometres return (allow 1.5 hours). To extend the walk, continue onto Stage 3 from the town cemetery, another 2.4 kilometres return (allow 45 minutes) via beach or cliff top trail – please note this section is not wheel-chair accessible.
Level of difficulty: easy

 

Day Walks

Kangaroo Island Look-out to Marion Bay
A natural-surfaced goat-track style trail along cliff headlands and on the beach. Involves some rock-hopping and dune-climbing.
Distance:  19.6 kms one way (allow 5.5 hours). 
Level of difficulty – moderate to hard (some short harder sections negotiating steep dunes).

Gym Beach to Formby Bay
Natural-surface trail negotiating native vegetation along the cliff-tops, headlands and dunes. Spectacular surf breaks and quiet secluded beaches are a highlight.
Level of difficulty – moderate.
Distance: 9.6 kms one way (allow 3.5 hours), 19.2 kms return (allow 6.5 hours).

Port Hughes to The Gap
Discover quiet crisp white beaches walking the beach past vegetated dunes and samphire flats.
Level of difficulty – moderate.
Distance: 26.7 kms one way (allow 7.5 hours). 

Port Rickaby to Port Victoria
Wide, long beaches form the majority of this section with shallow, crystal blue waters for as far as the eye can see.
Level of difficulty – easy. Not accessible for the mobile-impaired or prams.
Distance: 21.6 kms one way (allow 6 hours). 

 

Multi-Day Walks

Marion Bay to Gleesons Landing
Spectacular rugged cliffs, high-energy beaches, mammoth dunes and quiet, inland woodlands are discovered whilst following a natural-surfaced trail and walking some beaches.
Overnight camping – multiple locations in Innes National Park and Council Bush camps outside of the Park. Suggested itinerary:

  • Marion Bay (Caravan Park and private accommodation available) to Pondalowie Campground: 21 kms (allow 6 hours)
  • Pondalowie Campground to Gym Beach Campground: 16 kms (allow 4.5 hours)
  • Gym Beach Campground to Gleesons Landing (Council Bush camp): 22 kms (allow 6 hours)
  • Total distance: 59 kms.

Level of difficulty – moderate.
Note: Parking entry fee and camping fee’s applicable within Innes National Park. Camping permits and fees applicable for Council Bush camps. Link to purchase camping and permits.

Corny Point to Hardwicke Bay
Predominantly on sandy beaches the first and last thirds, and natural-surfaced tracks and dirt roads in-between, the trail hugs the low energy coastline that features woodlands, samphire flats, and the shallow crystal blue waters lapping the white expansive Flaherty’s Beach.
Overnight camping – multiple locations in townships, including private accommodation options, and Council Bush camps. Suggested itinerary:

  • Corny Point (Caravan Park and private accommodation available) to Burners Beach Campground: 18 kms (allow 5 hours)
  • Burners Beach Campground to Point Turton (Caravan Park and private accommodation available): 12.5 kms (allow 3.5 hours)
  • Total distance: 30.5 kms


Port Rickaby to The Gap
Quite bays, long sandy beaches, wombat warrens, dunes and woodlands will all be experienced following the trail surfaces of beaches, compacted gravel, sealed (in Port Victoria) and natural-surface two-wheel tracks.
Overnight camping – multiple locations in townships, including private accommodation options, and Council Bush camps. Suggested itinerary:

  • Port Rickaby (Caravan Park and private accommodation available) to Port Victoria (Caravan Park and private accommodation available): 21.6 kms (allow 6 hours)
  • Port Victoria (Caravan Park and private accommodation available) to Balgowan (Caravan and Camping Park and private accommodation available): 21.3 kms (allow 6 hours)
  • Balgowan (Carvan and Camping Park and private accommodation available): 11 kms (allow 3 hours)
  • Total distance: 53.9 kms

 

Cycling

Ardrossan to Pine Point
Compacted gravel trail along clifftops and edging farmland.
Level of difficulty – easy. Some rises and falls.
Distance: 18.8 kms
**please note - a small section of trail approximately 1.5km south of Rogues Point & 3.5km north of Pine Point is currently under maintenance and closed for access.  The remainder of the Ardrossan to Pine Point section remains accessible.

Edithburgh to Port Moorowie
Sealed trail then compacted natural surface following two-wheel tracks and dirt roads.
Level of difficulty – easy. Some rises and falls.
Distance: 30.7 kms

Cape Elizabeth (starting at Moonta) to Balgowan
Natural-surface trail following two wheel tracks through Sheoak woodlands and the rear of sand dunes and samphire flats.
Level of difficulty – easy.
Distance: 46 kms
