With all this local expertise on hand, we asked for some local tips on their favourite winter Yorke Peninsula gems, and we weren't disappointed!

What is your favourite corner of Yorke Peninsula to visit over winter and why?

Nicole: One of the best times to see Dhilba Guuranda-Innes National Park is during winter, with the park landscape covered in greenery and emerging wildflowers. Wild winter weather also makes for a great adventure with wild surf, big winds from the Southern Ocean, and the possibility of spotting migrating whales.

Sonia: In my lounge all rugged up !

Tammy: Dhilba Guuranda-Innes National Park – relaxing and at one with nature, wildlife.

Linda: Wallaroo North Beach- love that you can drive on the beach and set up a picnic. The Copper Coast is so good having the three towns in such close proximity to each other with wonderful shops and cafes. Moonta Mines is fantastic for the area's Copper mining history having the museum, train ride and everyone’s favourite the old lolly shop.

Why is Winter the best time to visit Yorke Peninsula?

Nicole: There’s so much diversity in the landscape and experiences that cannot be seen during the summer months. Yorke Peninsula is a true all-rounder destination from the accommodation to experiences, and communities and characters you’ll meet.

Sonia: Watching the wild and woolly ocean from the comfort and warmth of a holiday house with a view. Chance to rug up in your winter woollies – beanie/scarf/gloves and go for a bracing “refreshing” walk in nature.

Tammy: Winter can be the best time to visit with activities including local football, fishing, leisurely strolls/shopping down the main streets of towns, mining heritage, ocean views from holiday destinations along the coastline without leaving the warmth of the holiday homes.

Linda: We have some of the most beautiful sunsets even during the cold winter months, plus the fishing is always good in winter!

The Yorke Peninsula is the traditional lands of the Narungga (Nharangga) people, who have lived on, and cared for, this country since the beginning of time. We work, live and travel on Nharannga Banggara [Country], and we take time away from those pursuits to acknowledge and pay our deep respects to the Nharangga Elders of the past and present.

Today, it is essential that we continue to care for and protect our spectacular natural environment. Tread lightly and leave no trace. Learn more about responsible and respectful travel on Yorke Peninsula.
