Unmissable, even from a distance, the Edithburgh Water Tower is a striking landmark rising 25 metres above the surrounding farmland. More than just a vital piece of infrastructure, it now serves as a vibrant tribute to the town's coastal identity and rich biodiversity.
Completed in just 15 days, the stunning art was completed in March 2021 by renowned mural artist Mike Makatron, with the assistance of Conrad Bizjak and Dylan Butler. Using a blend of spray gun and hand-painting techniques, the artwork brings to life the spectacular underwater world that lies beneath Edithburgh Jetty. It features creatures such as the Striped Pyjama Squid, Cuttlefish, and the elusive Leafy Sea Dragon, alongside a soaring White Bellied Sea Eagle, the long-legged Eastern Curlew, and the historic Troubridge Lighthouse — each element reflecting the natural and cultural heritage of the region.
The project was made possible through the AusTrade Bushfire Recovery Grant, with the support of the Edithburgh Progress Association, Yorke Peninsula Council, Yorke Peninsula Tourism, and SA Water.
