Tucked away on Marine Parade in the quiet coastal town of Port Moorowie, this privately owned water tank has been transformed into a breathtaking piece of rural art by artist Sam Brooks. Though not part of the official public infrastructure, the tank seamlessly complements the Southern Yorke Peninsula Water Tower Mural Trail, adding depth and character to the region's growing outdoor gallery.

The cylindrical canvas features a warm, sepia-toned tribute to natural beauty and pastoral heritage. A majestic bird of prey dominates one side of the mural, wings outstretched above sunlit dunes and distant hills. Alongside it, a historic sailing vessel navigates the shimmering waters near a long wooden jetty, anchoring the scene in the town's maritime roots. On the opposite side, a pair of powerful draught horses emerge from the landscape — a nod to the agricultural muscle that shaped much of the region's development.

Rendered in earthy tones and soft gradients, the mural blends seamlessly with its natural surroundings, echoing the textures of the land and sky. It invites passersby to pause and reflect on the interconnectedness of nature, history, and rural life — all captured with grace and detail on this humble structure.

Though small in scale, the Port Moorowie Water Tank mural is rich in spirit — a striking and heartfelt contribution to the visual story of Yorke Peninsula.

The Yorke Peninsula is the traditional lands of the Narungga (Nharangga) people, who have lived on, and cared for, this country since the beginning of time. We work, live and travel on Nharannga Banggara [Country], and we take time away from those pursuits to acknowledge and pay our deep respects to the Nharangga Elders of the past and present.

Today, it is essential that we continue to care for and protect our spectacular natural environment. Tread lightly and leave no trace. Learn more about responsible and respectful travel on Yorke Peninsula.
