Tickera

Yorke Peninsula

ATDW pixel
Located 38 kilometres south of Port Broughton and 20 kilometres north of Wallaroo, Tickera is a small town on the western coastline of Yorke Peninsula overlooking Spencer Gulf.

Famous for its fantastic crabbing opportunities, Tickera is also referred to as ‘The Crab Capital of the Spencer Gulf’ with many fishermen netting and raking for Blue Swimmer crabs in the warmer months (best between September and April).

Initially surveyed in 1882, the township of Tickera remained relatively small for a number of years before experiencing building and population growth in the 1970’s when holiday home purchases were made, and people began retiring to live in the town permanently.

Tickera has a number of heritage buildings including the Tickera School which opened in 1887, and operated through until 1933, Tickera Hotel (September 1884 to October 1905), and the Methodist Church, built in 1889.

The Yorke Peninsula is the traditional lands of the Narungga (Nharangga) people, who have lived on, and cared for, this country since the beginning of time. We work, live and travel on Nharannga Banggara [Country], and we take time away from those pursuits to acknowledge and pay our deep respects to the Nharangga Elders of the past and present.

Today, it is essential that we continue to care for and protect our spectacular natural environment. Tread lightly and leave no trace. Learn more about responsible and respectful travel on Yorke Peninsula.
