What is your favourite corner of Yorke Peninsula to visit over winter and why?

Anywhere with a warm fire and a amazing view! I do love the seclusion of Chinaman Wells. Even though it’s only 10 minutes from Maitland, in the centre of the Peninsula, it feels wild and remote. The quaint shacks along the foreshore are beautiful and the views are perfect. Pack a picnic and a thermos of hot chocolate and take in the scenery.

Best place to grab a bite to eat or a coffee?

So much to choose from! The coffee at Taste the Yorke in Moonta is so good and I love that owner Jo has such a strong focus on sustainability. Grab a spot on the footpath and do some people watching. For something a bit different the menu at The Bond Store is divine – definitely my favourite special occasion spot.

What would you be doing if you weren’t a tourism operator on YP?

If I wasn’t a tourism operator on the Yorkes I’d be working for one of the other tourism operators, I would still want to be amongst this amazing region!

Why is Winter the best time to visit Yorke Peninsula?

Winter is the best time to visit Yorkes because the operators here adjust to the seasons. What we offer during Summer is completely different to Winter. I change up my cooking classes to include warming and hearty dishes, and we might indulge in a glass or two of red wine! And of course, I just love the beautiful changing landscapes - Yorkes is stunning in Winter.

The Yorke Peninsula is the traditional lands of the Narungga (Nharangga) people, who have lived on, and cared for, this country since the beginning of time. We work, live and travel on Nharannga Banggara [Country], and we take time away from those pursuits to acknowledge and pay our deep respects to the Nharangga Elders of the past and present.

Today, it is essential that we continue to care for and protect our spectacular natural environment. Tread lightly and leave no trace. Learn more about responsible and respectful travel on Yorke Peninsula.
