One of nature's true gentlemen, Max Tooze grew up on at Corny Point, and today he's still here, owner and operator of Neptune's Surf Coaching and Experiences, a thriving tourism business on Yorke Peninsula's wild sourthern coast.

We dragged Max out of the surf long enough to ask him a few questions about what he loves about his corner of Yorkes in winter.

If you had one perfect day to spend on Yorke Peninsula, where would you start it, and what would you be doing?

If given the opportunity to craft an ideal itinerary for a day on Yorke Peninsula, it would commence with a refreshing surf or surf lesson at Berry Bay North, an essential start to any perfect day.

Where is your favourite place to eat? Why do you love it? Willing to share your fave dish or drink?

When it comes to dining options, while choices are somewhat limited in Corny Point/Marion Bay area, notable establishments include the Marion Bay Tavern and the Corny Point General Store. Among their offerings, the chips at the General Store stand out as a particular highlight along with the fire oven pizza and wine on tap at the Tavern.

Let us in on a secret and share a hidden gem.  Somewhere a bit off the beaten track, a little unexpected?

For those seeking hidden gems off the beaten path, Berry Bay North boasts an amazing rockpool, ideal for snorkeling enthusiasts. Abundant with diverse marine life and very large size, this locale offers a serene escape from the ordinary.

What's your favourite winter activity? Perhaps something for the kids, or a windy, windswept beach for a romantic getaway?

Embracing the allure of winter on the Peninsula, beach fishing emerges as a favored activity, offering abundant opportunities to catch Salmon, Whiting, and Tommys along the shores of Dany Beach and the numerous sheltered coves lining the coastline. For those who are happy to brave the cold and keep warm in or atop the water, paddling boarding and kayaking are also a great option.

The Yorke Peninsula is the traditional lands of the Narungga (Nharangga) people, who have lived on, and cared for, this country since the beginning of time. We work, live and travel on Nharannga Banggara [Country], and we take time away from those pursuits to acknowledge and pay our deep respects to the Nharangga Elders of the past and present.

Today, it is essential that we continue to care for and protect our spectacular natural environment. Tread lightly and leave no trace. Learn more about responsible and respectful travel on Yorke Peninsula.
